Prisma Health, Clemson launch health innovation funding program

Andrea Park -

The Clemson (S.C.) University Division of Research and Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health's Health Sciences Center announced the creation of a new investment fund to accelerate healthcare innovation in the state.

The Innovation Maturation Fund will allot up to $200,000 each year in grants to researchers in the health sciences, including Prisma clinicians and Clemson research faculty and graduate students. The grants will serve to develop and deploy medical initiatives and technologies, advance research, improve healthcare and drive economic growth in South Carolina.

"By identifying and targeting unmet clinical needs early in the research process, we have a wonderful opportunity to impact successful downstream commercialization of technologies developed and matured through this Innovation Maturation Fund," said Chris Gesswein, executive director of Clemson's research foundation, which will manage the fund.
