Possible data breach at St. Peter's Health Partners after man given records of other patients

Albany, N.Y.-based St. Peter's Health Partners is investigating a potential data breach after a man went to the hospital to retrieve medical records for himself and his family and also received pages of two other patients' medical records, reports The Times Union.

Charles Sullivan told The Times Union his medical record contained three pages of a woman's record, and his daughter's contained a page of an elderly man's records.

Mr. Sullivan was retrieving his records after his family physician left the hospital. He said the employee working in the dismissed physician's office asked him to return the records, which he said he did.

A hospital spokesperson told The Times Union when the publication reached out for a comment, it was the first they had heard of it. "If there was a privacy breach we will conduct an investigation and follow all of the proper procedures that are needed," Elmer Streeter, the spokesperson, said. "You have told us the first that we know about this particular incident. We will have to look and see what occurred and what circumstances surrounded it."

Mr. Sullivan said he is concerned that his medical record has been made available to other patients. The dismissed physician had about 2,100 patients, according to the report.
