Pokemon to launch new game app that tracks users' sleep

Pokemon is developing a new mobile game application called Pokemon Sleep, which will collect data on players' sleeping patterns as well as what time they wake up to affect gameplay, CNBC reports.

In 2016, the company launched Pokemon Go, an augmented reality smartphone app that uses the phone's GPS and camera to allow users to search for virtual Pokemon characters in the real world.

"After walking, we decided to focus on the act of sleeping," Pokemon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara said at a May 29 press conference, according to the report. "Everyone spends a large part of their life sleeping, and turning that into entertainment is our next challenge at Pokemon."

Pokemon Sleep is slated for release in 2020.
