Philips, LabPON create digital database of tumor tissues

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Royal Philips and LabPON, a Hengelo, Netherlands-based clinical laboratory that uses digital diagnosis, are joining forces to create an electronic database of annotated pathology images.

For the database, LabPON will contribute roughly 300,000 whole slide images, including de-identified datasets of cases that have already been annotated by a pathologist. When completed, the database will provide pathologists with clinical information to use to develop deep learning algorithms, which Philips and LabPON hope will lead to the discovery of new insights for tumor tissue diagnosis.

Philips will also make the database available to research institutions and partners through its translational research platform.
