The California Integrated Data Exchange, a statewide health information exchange backed by Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross, is looking for a chief executive after relatively constant turnover, reports California Healthline.
David Watson previously served as CEO of the HIE for less than two years, leaving the HIE in May for the private sector, according to the report. Since then, two interim CEOs have held the position. Currently, Jerry Peters, the HIE's general counsel, is the interim leader.
Mr. Peters told California Healthline a recruitment firm is interviewing CEO candidates right now.
But the HIE faces other troubles that have slowed adoption, Mr. Peters said in the report. "While progress has been slower than we hoped, we are continuing to work with several providers and payers and look forward to adding new participants in the near future," he said.
The two founding payers — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California — and Sacramento, Calif.-based Dignity Health are currently participating in the HIE. Some Medi-Cal patients' information may be included via a privately run managed care plan, as well, according to the report. Cal INDEX is open to any health data contributor in the state.
In the report, Mr. Peters said the previous fee structure was too complex, and the organization has simplified it for this year. Participants have to pay fees to access patient information.
"We remain committed to working with current and prospective participants to address their business, legal or financial concerns," he said in the report.
