Overall percentage of female CIOs at Fortune 500 companies has dropped since 2012, study finds

The percentage of female CIOs at Fortune 500 companies decreased 3 percent between 2012 and 2016, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The data comes from Korn / Ferry International, a Los Angeles-based consulting firm.

According to Korn / Ferry, only the industrial and healthcare sectors saw increases in the number of women who served as CIOs of companies. Here is a breakdown of the percentage of female CIOs of companies in various industries.

Fortune 500

  • 2012: 18 percent of CIOs were female
  • 2016: 15 percent of CIOs were female

Consumer

  • 2012: 24 percent
  • 2016: 13 percent

Financial services

  • 2012: 22 percent
  • 2016: 14 percent

Healthcare

  • 2012: 9 percent
  • 2016: 16 percent

Technology

  • 2012: 16 percent
  • 2016: 10 percent

Industrial

  • 2012: 19 percent
  • 2016: 21 percent
