OSF Ventures invests in devicemaker improving sepsis-fighting fluid resuscitation

Andrea Park -

OSF HealthCare announced Dec. 9 its venture arm has invested in 410 Medical, with which the Peoria, Ill.-based health system has launched ongoing pilot programs to improve treatment of septic pediatric patients.

The healthcare technology startup closed its $8 million Series A financing round in October with participation from OSF Ventures. Beyond providing funding, OSF Ventures took an even greater role in 410 Medical's growth with the addition of Stan Lynall, vice president of venture investments at OSF Ventures, to the startup's board of directors.

Along with the investment news, OSF HealthCare reported promising results on a pilot program launched with 410 Medical in February. Through the pilot, clinicians have been using the handheld LifeFlow device to rapidly infuse septic pediatric patients with fluids.

With the success of the program, the health system said in the announcement it will likely expand the pilot to use LifeFlow for fluid resuscitation of children experiencing low blood pressure due to trauma, shock or other complications. Additionally, Mr. Lynall shared plans to expand the device's use to OSF Life Flight pre-hospital emergency transport and the emergency department.
