Oregon to create state-based public/private HIT governance partnership

Anuja Vaidya -

The Oregon Health Leadership Council and Oregon Health Authority released the Health Information Technology "Commons" Business Plan. The plan will guide the creation of a public/private HIT governance partnership in the state.

The HIT Commons aims to help connect existing HIT systems, support statewide solutions and guide investments made to further HIT across Oregon. Specifically, the HIT Commons will help create a neutral governance and decision-making process for HIT investment efforts and will enable access to high-quality data, including connecting Oregon's providers to a prescription drug monitoring program.

This business plan, which was created by OHLC, OHA and stakeholders, has been accepted by both boards. In 2018, the HIT Commons will assume governance of the Emergency Department Information Exchange as well as other Oregon-based HIT initiatives.
