Optum acquires patient monitoring startup

Andrea Park -

UnitedHealth Group's Optum has acquired Vivify Health, a startup offering providers and payers a mobile, cloud-based platform for remote patient care management, two people with knowledge of the deal told CNBC.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Neither UnitedHealth Group nor Vivify Health provided CNBC with a comment on the acquisition.

The Vivify Health deal marks the latest of Optum's many acquisitions in 2019: This year, the health services company has also acquired patient social network PatientsLikeMe, payment-processing platform Equian and DaVita Medical Group.

The Vivify platform is used by providers and payers across the country, including Pittsburgh-based UPMC, Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth, Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger, and more. The startup has reportedly raised millions in funding since its 2009 founding, with investors including UPMC and Edmundson, Mo.-based Ascension's venture arm.
