One lucky startup can win 6 months of access to BCBS data on 170M patients

The BCBS Association and its analytics arm, Blue Health Intelligence, launched a contest April 30 seeking companies with innovative ideas to improve healthcare access and care delivery.

The winner of the contest will receive six months of access to a "limited" data set from Blue Health Intelligence, which has data on more than 5 billion procedures from more than 170 million people who are covered or have been covered by BCBS insurance plans.

BCBS leaders say the goal of the challenge is to promote innovation, which is often stalled by the lack of data.

The contest seeks proposals from companies in three categories: tools that will predict when and where interventions can be made in real-time, tools that can help increase access to care, or tools that will improve patient experience. Proposals are due June 25.
