ONC Transitions Nationwide Health Information Network to eHealth Exchange

HHS' ONC has transitioned control of the Nationwide Health Information Network to the eHealth Exchange, a network of 34 public and private organizations representing hundreds of hospitals, thousands of providers and millions of patients across the country, according to a HITECH Answers report.

The ONC's Health IT Policy Committee announced it was moving away from regulation of the Nationwide Health Information Exchange during its 40th meeting in September. https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/healthcare-information-technology/onc-discontinues-work-on-federal-nwhin-governance.html

The Exchange Coordinating Committee, which is responsible for planning, consensus building and ensuring consistent approaches to developing, implementing and operating the exchange, designated Healtheway, a nonprofit organization, to assume operational support of the network. This became effective Oct. 1.

The eHealth Exchange recently announced a program to foster greater interoperability among electronic health records.
