NYC Health + Hospitals now live on Epic at Elmhurst, Queens hospitals

Staff -

The April 2 Epic EHR go-live at New York City Health + Hospitals took place as planned at two of the health system's hospitals.

NYC Health + Hospitals' Elmhurst and Queens hospitals transitioned to the new EHR in the early morning of April 2. During the go-live, more than 700 inpatients were in the hospitals. The health system reports the new EHR is functioning well.

The health system says there are no major patient safety concerns, and any issues that have risen have been minor and related to process and workflow.

"This was an immense undertaking involving more than 8,000 users, 17 different Epic modules and 36 ancillary systems, including labs, blood bank, radiology and more. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely," according to an emailed statement from the health system. "We thank all the staff who participated in this crucial part of the public health system's transformation, and we look forward to the benefits the new electronic medical record system will provide to our patients."
