NIST to Help Healthcare Providers With HIPAA Compliance

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is developing several tools to help healthcare providers and plans understand and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Security Rule, according to an announcement on the Federal Business Opportunities website.

NIST has contracted with Exeter, for more than $718,000, to develop a Security Rule toolkit application with an electronic user manual for improved provider and payor compliance. The HIPAA Security Rule includes standards meant to protect electronic personal health information that is created and used by healthcare providers, plans and businesses.
