Nearly half of healthcare providers report increasing IT budgets

IT is increasingly becoming an integral part of healthcare. A new survey from IDC Health Insights indicates 40 percent of healthcare providers have a growing IT budget. 

The top reasons for increasing IT spend include analytics, patient engagement, customer relationship management and security. Despite EHRs being a top-of-mind issue, just 25 percent of the survey’s respondents reported EHRs as a reason for IT budget increase.

Key areas of new software spending include:

• On-site investments: 50 percent
• Third party managed hosting projects: 24 percent
• Software-as-a-service: 18 percent
