National Science Foundation seeks information on medical device, EHR interoperability

Jackie Drees -

The National Science Foundation is seeking information on new approaches to solve interoperability issues between medical devices, data platforms and EHRs.

The NSF submitted the request for information in support of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development program's health IT research and development interagency working group Feb. 11. The RFI is open to businesses in all industries, as well as academic and nongovernmental organizations.

With enhanced interoperability between medical devices and EHRs, NITRD hopes healthcare stakeholders will be able to develop new models for monitoring, device interaction and control that support patient safety, decrease medical errors and reduce provider burden.

Comments are due March 15.
