MU-attested critical access hospitals send most summary of care documents

An objective of meaningful use stage 2 requires hospitals that transition a patient to another care setting or refer a patient to another provider to send a summary of care record for each transition or referral.

According to the latest ONC data from a Health IT Policy Committee Meeting, released March 10, critical access hospitals send the highest percentage of electronic summary of care documents compared with other hospitals.

All hospitals on average send 36 percent of electronic summary of care documents. Critical access hospitals send 44 percent of such documents electronically. Large hospitals send the lowest percentage of electronic summary of care documents, at 32 percent.

Small urban hospitals send such documents electronically 36 percent of the time, small rural hospitals send them 35 percent of the time and medium hospitals send them 33 percent of the time.
