Mount Sinai Health System launches app-prescription platform RxUniverse

New York-based Mount Sinai Health System has rolled out RxUniverse, a digital platform that enables physicians to prescribe mobile health apps to patients.

RxUniverse was developed by researchers at the Sinai App Lab, a technology team at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The platform features a curated list of evidence-based apps that physicians can directly share with patients. RxUniverse also includes educational content, patient satisfaction surveys and other tools for physicians to prescribe to patients.

"Apps have typically been recommended to patients verbally, but with the myriad of mobile health apps on the market, many with no proven evidence, it is a challenge for providers and patients," said Ashish Atreja, MD, chief technology innovation and engagement officer and director of the Sinai AppLab. "RxUniverse eliminates these uncertainties and barriers to digital medicine."

The Sinai App Lab has partnered with Mount Sinai Innovation Partners to create a startup company, Responsive Health. This startup will license RxUniverse for use by other health systems.
