Midland-based MidMichigan Health is going live on Verona, Wis.-based Epic's EHR platform at all its medical centers, physicians' offices and outpatient care facilities on April 1. The health system reportedly invested $55 million in the implementation.

The new EHR system allows patient records to be shared across the MidMichigan Health network. It also pivots all MidMichigan Health facilities to the same platform for registration, scheduling and billing.

Additionally, the new system allows patients to take advantage of electronic services including telemedicine, online check-ins and online appointment scheduling. MidMichigan Health will internally house the system's IT framework.

"We are really excited to launch our new EMR," said Dan Waltz, CIO of MidMichigan Health. "We have had a team of more than 160 MidMichigan and Epic staff that have worked around the clock on the implementation and installation of this system for our patients. When we go live on April 1, we'll have more than 750 staff designated as super users who will offer support to those using the new system."

In a second phase of the EHR launch, MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena will be connected to the platform in September 2017 and MidMichigan Home Care in spring 2018.
