Microsoft officials plan to remove the company's HealthVault Insights app from the iOS, Android and Windows marketplaces this month, according to a statement on the HealthVault website.
Microsoft launched HealthVault Insights as a research project in early 2017. The company will discontinue the app as the project comes to a close.
Under the project, Microsoft's partners — System C & Graphnet Care Alliance and Tribridge — applied machine learning algorithms to medical data that participating patients housed on the app. The goal for the project, according to Microsoft officials, was to provide patients with health insights that improved their adherence to care plans.
For example, the app might help a physician analyze a patient's medical data to inform personalized treatment plans for chronic condition management.
"Since [the project's launch], we've learned a lot about how machine learning can be used to increase patient engagement and are now applying that knowledge to other projects," the online statement reads. "As part of this progression, we've made the decision to remove HealthVault Insights."
Former app users will still be able to access a summary of their data on the HealthVault Insights website, according to Microsoft officials.
