Microsoft rolls out new tech tools to boost healthcare providers' scheduling, analytics & more

Microsoft is in the process of launching several new technology solutions to improve hospital and health systems' scheduling, cybersecurity, telehealth and data analytics capabilities, according to a March 6 blog post.

In the post, several of Microsoft's healthcare technology leaders — Greg Moore, MD, PhD, corporate vice president of health technology and alliances; David Rhew, MD, vice president and chief medical officer; and Peter Lee, corporate vice president of Microsoft Healthcare — described the new offerings.

The new tools and updates include:

  • A Bookings app within the Microsoft Teams communication platform allowing care teams to schedule and conduct virtual patient visits
  • The Microsoft Compliance Score, which will monitor organizations' Microsoft 365 environments to determine HIPAA and HITECH compliance
  • Broader availability of the Azure Sphere integrated cybersecurity solution for connected medical devices and services
  • The addition of symptom-checking and other healthcare-specific templates for the Microsoft Healthcare Bot virtual assistant creator
  • A suite of analytics services that can be used in the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and comply with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standards
