Microsoft launched a program to fund research that supports people with disabilities, CEO Satya Nadella announced May 7 during a speech at the company's developer conference Build in Seattle.
The program, dubbed AI for Accessibility, will award $25 million during the next five years to researchers, nonprofits and developers who use artificial intelligence to improve quality of life for those with disabilities, The New York Times reports.
Mr. Nadella, whose son was born with cerebral palsy, said the technology industry has a responsibility to build products that empower everyone.
"We need to ask ourselves not only what computers can do but what computers should do," he said during the speech.
