Last month Microsoft launched its 365 Government cloud software. Now, the tech giant is offering Microsoft Teams for government agencies, according to Washington Technology.
Teams is a "hub for teamwork," according to Microsoft. The software combines chats, meetings, calls, files and apps in one place. Users have access to SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Word and Excel.
While the new software has been available on the Government Community Cloud, Microsoft recently made it available to the GCC High and Defense Department networks.
The new offerings come as the government and DOD finalize plans to modernize information technology infrastructure. Specifically, Microsoft is vying for the $8.2 million Defense Enterprise Office Solution contract, which aims to store the DOD's email, calendar and collaboration services on the cloud.
Final offerings for the deal could be made by the end of the month.
Microsoft has a 40-year relationship with the DOD. The company declined to comment about the contract.
"These offerings are just one further step we're making in helping to meet their diverse set of mission goals as they look to move to the cloud," a Microsoft spokesperson told Washington Technology.
