Physicians at Holland (Mich.) Hospital teamed up with medical technology company Encoris to develop a realistic surgical simulation model to help medical students practice removing kidney stones, according to FOX-17 News.
The PCNL Boz Trainer model allows medical students to practice the procedure using X-ray and ultrasound technology rather than using cadavers or animals, according to the article.
Holland Hospital is the first hospital to implement the technology. Encoris officials said the models will eventually be marketed to medical schools, medical device companies and other hospitals around the country.
