Meta has unveiled its new artificial intelligence supercomputer it claims will be the fastest in the world, The Wall Street Journal reported Jan. 25.
The hundreds-strong team behind the AI Research SuperCluster computer has spent two years building it. Currently the research team is using the SuperCluster to train AI models but plans to eventually boost its ability to train models with massive amounts of data, up to an exabyte.
When the computer is complete in summer 2022, it will be equipped with 16,000 graphics-processing units, which will make it the fastest supercomputer in the world. It is still being used for research purposes, the products of which likely will not surface for years. Eventually, Meta said it plans to use the supercomputer to help build other AI models that mimic the human brain to support metaverse experiences, according to the Journal.
