Medidata to be acquired for $5.8B: 5 things to know

Dassault Systemes, a French technology company, will acquire healthcare software company Medidata for $5.8 billion, CNBC reports.

Five things to know:

1. Medidata software provides cloud-based technology and data analytics for clinical research.

2. Medical clinics can use Medidata to help manage their data and office operations, and medical device companies have used it to monitor processes for clinical trials.

3. Dassault Systemes Chairman and CEO Bernard Charles told CNBC the motivation behind the company's acquisition of Medidata is because, "Life science is going to go through an accelerated digitization of its own processes, basically."

4. Dassault Systemes specializes in software for life sciences, transportation and aerospace companies to help increase businesses' digital initiatives.

5. In 2018, Medidata posted $635.7 million in revenue, a 17 percent increase from the same period one year prior.
