Mayo Clinic enters development agreement with VR surgical training vendor

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic entered into a three-year joint development agreement with FundamentalVR, a London-based virtual reality surgical training and data analysis platform.

FundamentalVR will work with Mayo Clinic's surgeons, data scientists and 3D modeling experts to create simulation content, assessment criteria and validation tools for its platforms, starting with general surgery, such as the company's surgery simulation platform Fundamental Surgery.

As part of the agreement, Mayo Clinic has installed Fundamental Surgery for use in simulation centers at its Arizona, Florida and Minnesota campuses.

"This collaboration with the Mayo Clinic will dramatically accelerate our progress and ensures that the FundamentalVR team has access to the very best surgical knowledge," Richard Vincent, CEO of FundamentalVR, said in a news release.

Future areas for collaboration will include developing surgical VR and education products for robotic and patient-specific simulations.
