Malwarebytes: New malware targets Apple computers at biomedical research centers

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Malwarebytes, a malware prevention company, has identified a new type of malware targeting Apple computers.

The malware, which has only been seen at biomedical research centers, can receive remote commands to capture the screen, adjust the cursor position and simulate keyboard presses, according to a Malwarebytes blog post.

Malwarebytes notes that the malware uses "antiquated code," leading the company to hypothesize that although the malware has just been identified, it has likely been in existence for the past few years.

Apple has released an update, according to the post, which will download on computers to protect against this type of malware infection.
