While data and analytics may help health systems make more informed decisions, less than one-quarter of healthcare executives apply it when making daily strategic decisions, according to a recent survey.
The Healthcare Information Management Systems Society Analytics and Dimensional Insight surveyed 110 senior healthcare leaders about their use of analytics.
More than 92 percent of respondents said their organization has an analytics strategy in place. The majority of participants (67.9 percent) said their analytics solution includes an executive dashboard to assist senior leaders in making strategic decisions.
Despite two-thirds of participants having access to an executive dashboard, only 35.1 percent of respondents said they use it daily. Of the 110 total participating executives, only 23.9 percent use an executive dashboard for daily decision making.
To apply analytics successfully, healthcare executives should define their system's strategic goals prior to determining which analytics will support their initiatives, study authors concluded. Once their goals are defined, senior officials can use their executive dashboard to track and determine progress.
