Lehigh Valley, St. Luke's University health systems to implement Epic

Staff -

Two Pennsylvania hospital systems are adopting and implementing Epic's EHR platform.

Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network will phase the new platform into their system over the next four to six years, beginning with the networks outpatient offices on Feb. 18. Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Hospital Network will start transitioning early next year, according to a report in The Morning Call.

The two health systems independently decided to implement Epic's EHR, but they said in the report that they will now be able to freely exchange information between each other.

LVHN will spend approximately $200 million on the implementation, and St. Luke's hired more than 100 workers to help with the switch, according to the report.

Chad Brisendine, CIO of St. Luke's, said in the report this is the "single biggest technical investment" in the history of St. Luke's.
