A survey, conducted by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Analytics and commissioned by TEKsystems, a private talent management firm, found that for healthcare providers, the need for training support during electronic health record implementation is critical for a successful implementation.

HIMSS Analytics surveyed a total of 300 IT professionals in U.S. hospitals between October 2012 and November 2012.

Some key findings from the survey are:

•    Sixty-six percent of healthcare professionals cite the challenge of finding the right workers with the right skills for EHR implementation, and 57 percent struggle with finding the right people to build a training program.
•    Forty percent of survey respondents requested more training.
•    Thirty-seven percent would like to see a support staff with EHR implementation experience.
•    Seventy-seven percent of respondents also reported a desire for learning modules tailored to specific jobs
•    Eighty-eight percent reported wanting learning modules tailored to specific workflows.
