Mackenzie Garrity -

At the South by Southwest conference in Austin March 11, Katie Couric led a panel on the future of digital health.

After the panel she spoke with Cheddar about her thoughts and experience with healthcare.

"There are a lot of things that are said that are negative about technology, but I think in this case, technology can make health and information so much more accessible and so much easier to navigate," Ms. Couric told the publication.

Ms. Couric broke it down even more, stating many people she encounters "don't know what a deductible is or what a copay is." The journalist has been a healthcare advocate for years, after he husband passed away from cancer at age 42.

"I know full well how confusing and scary it can be," Ms. Couric told Cheddar when asked about the healthcare system.

At the panel and conference, Ms. Couric talked about Medicare for All, noting it as a "hot button issue" for the 2020 presidential election. While expressing concerns about healthcare's price tag, Ms. Couric did not endorse any polices.

The panel, titled "A Better Future Through Digital Health," featured:

  • San Francisco-based Rally Health President and COO David Ko
  • BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Vice President of Product and Consumer Innovation Sarah Martin
