Kaiser CIO joins Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation's board of directors: 3 things to know

The Dallas-based Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation appointed Richard D. Daniels of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente to its board of directors, the organization confirmed Jan. 3.

PCCI, created by Dallas-based Parkland Health & Hospital System, is an independent nonprofit healthcare research and development think tank focused on data science and machine learning.

Here are three things to know about the appointment.

1. Mr. Daniels serves as executive vice president and CIO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. As a member of the health system's national executive team, Mr. Daniels manages the organization's IT vision and strategy.

2. Mr. Daniels joined Kaiser Permanente in 2008. He has held a variety of leadership positions, including senior vice president of enterprise shared services and senior vice president for IT.

3. Other members of PCCI's board of directors include Fred Cerise, MD, president and CEO of Parkland Health & Hospital System, and Ted Shaw, president and CEO of the Texas Hospital Association.

"I am thrilled that Richard will be joining our PCCI board," said Mr. Shaw, who serves as chairman of the board. "His intelligence and deep experience will help guide PCCI into the swirling waters of population health and bringing medical communities together to improve the health of millions."
