Jefferson Health, Independence Blue Cross to host hackathon this weekend

Drone-based care, wearables and improving the patient experience will be the focus of Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health and Independence Blue Cross' hackathon scheduled for this weekend.

The Health Hack is a free event for professionals, designers, programmers, nurses, engineers and students to workshop and develop ideas for creating scalable solutions to some of healthcare's problems.

The hackathon, which will be held Nov. 13-15, will have three tracks: drone-based healthcare delivery; wearables and helping patients and providers better understand individual health; and improving patient experience by reducing readmissions.

This will be the first known hackathon to have a track focused solely on drones.

"We are very excited to watch new ideas take shape at the Health Hack as participants from a variety of backgrounds join together to reimagine healthcare and ignite creative solutions to today's challenges," said Independence President and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty. "This is just the type of imaginative thinking that we hope to continue to drive through our partnership with Jefferson, recognizing the significant impact that can be made through new products and improved quality of care."
