Even as the number of jobs added to the U.S. economy each month begins to slow down, IT hiring continues to rise, The Wall Street Journal reports.
In August, the economy added 130,000 jobs, down from the average of 156,000 every month for the past three years, per Labor Department employment data. Tech hiring, however, was up: Companies across all industries added 104,000 IT workers in August, marking the fourth consecutive month of increased hires in the sector.
Tech companies, specifically, added a reported 11,400 workers last month. The majority were appointed to tech positions, while the remaining 30 percent were funneled into departments such as marketing and sales.
These trends are expected to continue: "Technology has become so integral to every facet of a company's operations that technology hiring will continue to outpace other specialties for many years," Martha Heller, CEO of IT executive recruiting firm Heller Search Associates, told the Journal.
