Is Apple the 'most effective security organization in the world'? Apple thinks so

Staff -

Apple engineers in a press briefing Friday detailed many of the iPhone's security features and laid claim to have the "most effective security organization in the world," reports The Verge.

The tech giant held the press briefing in the midst of its own legal battles with the federal government regarding unlocking an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino gunmen. The FBI mandated Apple to decrypt the phone, but Apple resisted, saying doing so would pose a security risk to all its customers.

However, engineers said in the briefing it views hackers as the threat to iPhone encryption and security, not the government, according to Mashable.

The press briefing was reportedly highly technical, with engineers outlining the phone's multilayered security. Some security elements are industrywide, while others are unique to Apple hardware. All in all, Apple emphasized the chance of a software bug on the iPhone threatening customer security is very low, according to The Verge.
