IBM Watson Health enters partnership to strengthen liver cancer imaging

Jessica Kim Cohen -

IBM Watson Health entered into a co-development agreement with French medical imaging company Guerbet to create software solutions for liver cancer care, IBM confirmed July 10.

Under the agreement, IBM Watson Health and Guerbet will develop clinical decision support software that supports liver cancer diagnostic by applying artificial intelligence to CT and MRI images. The first tool in development, Watson Imaging Care Advisor for Liver, will use AI to help clinicians with early detection, monitoring and treatment recommendations for primary and secondary liver cancer.

Watson Imaging Care Advisor for Liver will be the first in IBM's portfolio of AI clinical decision support tools focused on radiology and diagnostics.

"Imaging is a critical area of healthcare where we believe artificial intelligence can be used to expand the physician's view so they can be more informed in their diagnostic and treatment decisions for their patients," Anne Le Grand, vice president of imaging at IBM Watson Health, said in IBM's July 10 statement.

Watson Imaging Care Advisor for Liver will be compatible with most common picture archiving and communication systems, according to the companies.
