IBM to launch new data services

Jessica Kim Cohen -

IBM will add new beta functionality to its Watson Discovery Service in April.

The Watson Discovery Service helps users discern patterns and insights from large datasets. Its services seek to streamline the analysis process, in part by using artificial intelligence to reduce the time users would typically spend manually preparing data.

The beta functionality will add a relevancy training module, which uses machine learning to customize the findings Watson Discovery Service highlights. The beta functionality will also include passage retrieval capabilities, which will display responses within a given passage without special processing.

"To date, we've only explored a tiny fraction of the world's existing data," said Beth Smith, general manager of IBM Watson AI. "With the advanced discovery capabilities of the Watson platform, IBM is shining a light on dark data by unlocking patterns, trends and relationships in data that were previously invisible."
