IBM to acquire cloud computing consultant firm: 6 notes

IBM has reached an agreement to acquire Taos, a cloud professional and managed services provider, IBM announced Jan. 14.

Here are some important things to know about the deal:

1. Taos was founded in 1989 and helps companies migrate their applications and data to remote computing infrastructure, according to The Wall Street Journal.

2. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, IBM said.

3. Taos is one of the largest multi-cloud consulting and managed services firms in North America and has provided its services to Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

4. John Granger, IBM's vice president of cloud application innovation, told The Wall Street Journal that the company will acquire Taos partly because of its partnerships with major public cloud service providers.

5. The deal will be IBM's ninth acquisition since Arvind Krishna became IBM's chief executive, according to The Wall Street Journal.

6. Taos has worked with brands across several sectors, including technology, financial services, healthcare, retail and transportation, IBM said.

"Taos adds the deep expertise, public cloud partnerships and innovative solutions needed to drive growth and adoption of IBM's hybrid cloud platform throughout the Americas," Mr. Granger said in a press release.
