IBM, Tiatros partnership supports veterans with PTSD

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Tiatros' digital psychotherapy program for veterans boasts a 73 percent success rate, according to the company.

Last year, Tiatros — a digital health company — integrated IBM Watson application programming interfaces into its Post Traumatic Growth for Veterans program. The program connects veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder with peers through a secure social network platform.

In the program, participants write weekly narratives to share on the social network, which Watson Personality Insights analyzes for openness, optimism and other characteristics. Other participants can comment on these narratives, which the Watson Tone Analyzer monitors for various emotions.

Tiatros' program facilitators use these Watson insights to personalize cognitive behavioral therapy to each participant.

"Mental health is one of the most significant determinants of overall health, and innovators like Tiatros are pioneering the cognitive tools that will help scale successful programming to each individual in need," said Kyu Rhee, MD, chief health officer of IBM Watson Health. "We are proud to be part of this novel program."
