IBM rolls out Watson for Cybersecurity at 40 organizations

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Forty companies have begun using the beta version of Watson for Cybersecurity, according to Wired.

Partners for this roll out span healthcare to finance, including University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, Sun Life Financial and Smarttech, according to Fortune. Watson for Cybersecurity will leverage Watson — IBM's artificial intelligence technology — to provide security analysts from these organizations with reports and recommendations.

These updates might include identifying suspicious user behavior or events associated with malware. IBM researchers have been introducing Watson to cybersecurity since last spring, according to Wired, so that Watson understands general security. IBM says Watson will be able to streamline workflow for security teams by prioritizing security events each day.

Moving forward, IBM says Watson will use the information it learns from working with these 40 organizations to hone its recommendations beyond general security, focusing in on the specific cybersecurity landscapes of various industries.
