McKesson employees are finding new ways to help comfort healthcare patients, according to MyAJC.com.
Approximately 300 employees at the company's Alpharetta, Ga., location created care packages for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
The project was part of the McKesson Foundation's Community Days initiative, which took place from Sept. 19 to 30. More specifically, the blankets within each care package were created through Giving Comfort, a program founded in 2012 and completely funded by the McKesson Foundation.
Giving Comfort asked patients and caregivers what cancer patients need most while undergoing treatment. Their answer? Care packages and notes of encouragement.
In total, McKesson employees wrote notes, made over 1,000 blankets and decorated hope chests, all of which went into care packages for patients. The packages were distributed to various patients through partners in the Atlanta area, including Grady Health, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the American Cancer Society Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge in Decatur, Ga.
"Through this program, cancer patients across North America receive free care packages — backpacks and totes filled with the items most requested and needed by people going through treatment," said Carrie Montagna, McKesson's senior marketing manager and corporate regional volunteer chair.
