How Cerner is paving the way for a new era of EHRs & 17 other health IT notes

Here's the latest roundup of stories about health IT companies, including Cerner, Google and Microsoft.

1. Cerner retracted its bid to sell a portion of its Kansas City, Mo.-based Innovations Campus to developers for "retail and mixed-use."

2. PIH Health announced on Jan. 15 that it extended through 2025 its agreement with Allscripts, which provides the Whittier, Calif.-based health system with solutions, services and outsourcing engagement.

3. CareBridge, a startup providing technology to improve long-term care, launched on Jan. 13 with more than $40 million in funding.

4. Color, a population genomics and healthcare technology company that counts Apple, Verily and, most recently, Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health among its partners, has closed a $75 million funding round.

5. A vulnerability in Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system could allow cybercriminals to breach or spy on computer networks if exploited.

6. Cerner CEO Brent Shafer said the EHR vendor will continue to transform its business strategy in 2020 by redefining its client experience and cementing its position as part of the new cognitive era in healthcare.

13. Change Healthcare is updating its data analytics platform to allow healthcare providers to submit claims documents and clinical data to payers in both medical and worker's compensation market segments.

14. Verona, Wis.-based Epic last month received approval for the construction of two new office buildings on its storybook-themed campus.

15. Medical tech company Masimo is suing Apple for allegedly stealing its non-invasive health monitoring tech to use for the company's Apple Watch.

16. Cerner Innovation, a subsidiary of the Kansas City, Mo.-based EHR vendor, was granted a patent on Jan. 7 for a device that identifies inadequacies in blood samples before they get processed.

17. Philips announced Jan. 6 that it has developed additional consumer-focused digital health solutions, as the company continues to empower patients to take control of their healthcare.

18. Deepak Ahuja, who previously served as CFO of Tesla, is the newest executive to join Verily, Alphabet's healthcare and life sciences division.
