A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives aims to boost cybersecurity at HHS by creating the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer.
Reps. Billy Long (R-Mo.) and Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) introduced the bill, called "HHS Data Protection Act," which seeks to establish a CISO within HHS by Oct. 1. As proposed, the new position would fall within HHS' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration.
The CISO would be appointed by the president.
According to the bill, the CISO would have primary responsibility for the information security of HHS.
