HHS names new CTO: 3 things to know about Susannah Fox

HHS has named Susannah Fox its new chief technology officer. Here are three things to know about the new CTO.

1. Ms. Fox comes to HHS from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She was the RWJF's Entrepreneur in Residence from September 2014 to May 2015. Prior, she spent 14 years directing the health and technology portfolio at Pew Research Center. She also has experience as an editor U.S. News & World Report.

2. Ms. Fox introduced herself as the CTO through a blog post. She shared the considerations that drove her to accept the job.

•    The data liberacion work that Todd Park, the first HHS CTO, began.
•    The IDEA Lab team.
•    The possibility of highlighting the role citizen's play in improving health.

After meeting Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, acting deputy secretary of HHS, Ms. Fox was convinced she wanted the job, according to her blog post.

3. She earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.
