The event in Denver, called 10.10.10, is meant to pull together ideas that could form the basis for startup companies, according to The Hill. The event started Feb. 16 and will continue until Feb. 26, exploring 10 healthcare problems. The steering committee for the event has selected 10 prospective CEOs for startups and after the event they have the choice to run a startup to solve the problems.

The HHS IDEA Lab, a division of the HHS that invests in internal entrepreneurship, brings outside talent into the government and addresses cross-departmental strategy issues, is collaborating with the 10.10.10 project. The IDEA Lab is giving the event publicity and resources to do the research, although it did not mention financials.

“The U.S. health and healthcare systems that have lagged behind, or maybe even been resistant to entrepreneur-driven innovation, are at a critical inflection point,” Bryan Sivak, HHS chief technology officer, said in an interview in support of the event. “The needs are great and this is more important than ever before.”
