Health IT Panel Requests Comments on Stage 2 Meaningful Use Proposal

The Office of the National Coordinator's advisory panel is seeking public comments on its newly released draft of Stage 2 meaningful use requirements, according to a Government Health IT news report.

The Health IT Policy Committee has developed a draft of recommendations that it believes should be part of Stage 2 meaningful use in 2013. The policy committee will use the comments to form its final recommendations to the Health & Human Services Department this summer, according to the report.

Proposed recommendations include increasing Stage 1 thresholds, such as computerized physician order entry for a lab and medication from 30 percent to 60 percent in Stage 2. Other recommendations include entirely new measures, such as physicians digitizing progress notes for 30 percent of office visits. The committee is also seeking public feedback on patient access to care, patient-reported information in electronic health records and more.
