Head of Apple's health division permanently leaves to form new health startup

Anil Sethi, director of health technologies at Apple, revealed plans to leave his post to start a second healthcare startup, CNBC's Christina Farr reports.

Mr. Sethi had been on leave from the company for several months to care full time for his sister, who was diagnosed with cancer and later died in September.

CNBC reports Mr. Sethi has since decided not to rejoin Apple. Instead, he is in the process of creating a second startup aimed at making it easier for people to aggregate their health information to later share with researchers upon request.

Mr. Sethi is reportedly self-funding the venture, but plans to raise a round of funding during spring of next year. He plans to announce the venture during a technology conference in San Francisco Thursday, the report states.

The startup represents Mr. Sethi's second venture. He founded a medical records venture called Gliimpse, which Apple acquired in August 2016.
