HakensackUMC, Uber partner to offer rides for patients, staff, visitors

Staff -

Through a new partnership with ride hailing service Uber, Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center will provide on-demand rides for hospital staff, patients and visitors to the medical center and back home.

HackensackUMC is building a service in its app that provides Uber ride reminders to patients, and the hospital website will have a ride request landing page. The hospital will also establish pick-up zones that will be designated with co-branded signs. Riders using the Uber app will be able to indicate which zone they are in when requesting a ride.

The hospital said it will pay for Uber rides for "those in need."

"At HackensackUMC, we are committed to providing the best care to patients in the most convenient ways possible. We continuously assess our patients' needs and try to respond by offering services and programs," said Robert C. Garrett, president and CEO of Hackensack University Health Network. "We are proud to partner with Uber for this one-of-a-kind service that will make healthcare more accessible to our patients, team members and visitors who cite transportation as an obstacle to care."
