Google biotech unit Life Sciences rebrands as Verily

Staff -

Alphabet, Google's new parent company, has announced a new name for Google Life Sciences: Verily.

Google Life Sciences, a research division under Alphabet, began as a life sciences team under Google[X], the company's experimental lab. Now branded as Verily, the company will continue to investigate and research how to develop and leverage technology to improve human health.

"Verily is a new company that is focused on bringing together technology, science and medicine in the places where we think we can have the biggest impact on the detection, management and prevention of disease," a Verily spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal.

Some of Verily's projects (initiated when it was still operating as Google Life Sciences) include a smart contact lens and the Baseline Study, a multiyear initiative aiming to identify the traits of healthy humans.
