GE Healthcare and Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University are expanding their partnership to develop a software application that will make care recommendations for patients at high risk for developing sepsis.
OHSU opened its Mission Control Center, a NASA-style hub that uses GE Healthcare technology and artificial intelligence to coordinate patient care, in July 2017. The center has helped OHSU accept more transfer patients, up 6.3 percent since the center's launch.
The new app will help support early sepsis detection and manage ongoing care of at-risk patients. As soon as the algorithm detects a patient at high risk for sepsis, it will flag mission controllers, who will research the situation and assist care teams to ensure a rapid response.
"OHSU is taking its program to the next level by supporting sepsis patient care," Jeff Terry, CEO of Command Centers at GE Healthcare, said in a news release. "This is a great example of the scalability of the command center concept. It's an honor to serve the OHSU team."
